STAR TREK The Best of Trek Magazine Edited by Irwin and Love for sale in Bourbonnais, Illinois

This set of paperbacks represent the evolution of fan understanding of the Trek universe. As new novels, then new movies, then more new novels began to populate the Trek universe of the late '70s and through the '80s, there were always questions and speculations on the new information. Then there were the news and reviews articles and, of course, the interviews. These books (taken in order) allow a time-travel-like experience of participation in the '70s and '80s world of Trek; the rehashing of old concepts and the anticipation of new Trek revelation in the expected books and movies. Here's a great synopsis from the Star Trek Expanded Universe Wiki:
These books, vis--vis the magazine from which they originated, presented a wide assortment of articles and artwork by Star Trek fans, offering detailed perspectives on Star Trek in all of its facets, from character relationships to politics, religion, history and fan chronologies, science and technology. They also featured episode and movie reviews, interviews with Star Trek actors, production personnel and convention organizers. Occasionally fan fiction was also included.
The Best of Trek, like Trek magazine, was notable for postulating concepts which became Star Trek fanon, such as "Kazh", an early accepted fan name for the Klingon homeworld, and explanations for science and technology in the Star Trek universe. Leslie Thompson's "Star Trek MysteriesSolved!" was a popular recurring series throughout the magazine as well as all "Best of" volumes, anticipated by many readers.

Truly a multi-volume 'biography' of Trek fandom.
Most of the books look like they've just been purchased from the bookstore (for those younger than 25: that's an analog Amazon.com). I took pictures of the weak points of the collection:
Volume 1 has creasing on the spine and back as well as shelf ware along the base of the cover (both front and back).
Volumes 3 and 4 have light creasing on the spine. 4 also has a small bit of cover missing on the top front of spine.
Volume 8 has an unusual cut pattern running diagonally down the page edges. I remember purchasing the book in this condition.
All books are first printings EXCEPT Volume 2, which is a 3rd printing. Volume 13 is missing from this collection - no idea why, but there you go.
